How will Kaguya-sama end?
According to Kaguya-sama: Love is War Wikipedia, series creator Aka Akasaka took the names for our lovebirds from the famous Japanese folktale: The Bamboo Cutter. Akasaka loves princess stories, and Kaguya-hime is arguably the most well-known in Japanese culture.
Of course, simply naming a character after something isn’t a direct connection, but there are other similarities. For example, Kaguya is the daughter of a wealthy conglomerate family, which practically makes her a princess.
She grew up sheltered, but her father expects her to do as she’s told and never praises her. And it wouldn’t surprise me if he tried to force her to marry someone.
I highly recommend looking up The Bamboo Cutter, but be warned, there’s no happy ending. The Bamboo Cutter is not a love-conquers-all story.
Hopefully, Kaguya-sama: Love is War will end with a happy bang. Akasaka’s original plan for Love is War was to make it a fantasy/game of death series, but his editor wanted something more mainstream.
I’ll watch/read either version as long as the narrator keeps doing what he’s doing.
Interesting facts about Kaguya-sama: Love is War anime
Kaguya-sama: Love is War was originally going to be called “IQ.” Most people would attribute this to the constant scheming and mind games our characters go through.
But for those who know Japanese, “aikyuu” means love seeking or love longing. This makes it a fitting title, but Love is War sounds more fun.
There’s a yeti! In episode 3, Kaguya helps a little girl cross a street. The girl says she was walking with her friend, Yeti, and said Yeti appears on screen for a few seconds.
